Introducing a New Artificial Intelligence Course at High School
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently one of the fastest-growing areas of technology, increasingly shaping the world around us—from internet searches and social media to healthcare and the automotive industry. Understanding its foundations and applications is becoming essential for students entering today’s rapidly evolving digital workforce. In response to this global trend, our school is proud to announce the introduction of a new AI Fundamentals course, which will be added to our curriculum from the next academic year.
The primary goal of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive yet accessible overview of artificial intelligence. Designed with interdisciplinary participation in mind, it is open to all students regardless of their current specialization. The course structure combines theoretical instruction with hands-on experience to ensure that students gain the knowledge and skills highly valued by both universities and employers in the technology sector.
During the theoretical part of the course, students will learn about core concepts of AI, such as neural networks, machine learning, and computer vision. Lectures will introduce foundational algorithms and mathematical principles that underlie the functioning of intelligent systems. In recognition of the societal importance of AI, part of the curriculum will also be devoted to ethical issues, including topics such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, and the impact of automation on the future of work. By addressing these issues, we aim not only to develop technical understanding but also to cultivate responsible and informed digital citizens.
A significant component of the new course is devoted to practical applications. Students will have the opportunity to work with real datasets and gain introductory experience in programming with popular AI tools and platforms, such as TensorFlow and Python libraries (e.g., scikit-learn or spaCy for natural language processing). Individual and group assignments will help reinforce learned concepts through the development of simple machine learning models, chatbots, or text classifiers. By the end of the course, students will present their own mini-projects, demonstrating their ability to solve practical problems using AI techniques.
Recognizing the diversity of student backgrounds, instructors will provide mentoring and differentiated instruction tailored to beginners and advanced students alike. No prior experience with programming or computer science is required—enthusiasm and curiosity are the most important prerequisites!
Beyond technical skills, the AI Fundamentals course is intended to inspire students and broaden their career horizons. Industry experts and university researchers will be invited to share their insights in guest lectures, providing real-world perspectives on the role of artificial intelligence in various fields, from medical diagnostics to environmental monitoring.
The implementation of this course builds on our school’s long-standing commitment to providing up-to-date education that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, as seen in existing programs in electrical engineering, information technology, and logistics. By integrating AI into our curriculum, we hope to prepare our students to thrive in an innovation-driven world, encourage further specialized study, and foster critical thinking about the opportunities and challenges posed by new technologies.
We are excited to launch this new educational initiative and are confident that it will provide our students with valuable knowledge and a solid foundation for their future professional and personal development. We welcome all interested students to enroll and take their first steps into the fascinating field of artificial intelligence!
