Google is introducing a new Performance Panel to Chrome that will allow users to track sleeping tabs, tab performance and memory usage. The new feature should be coming to Chrome in Windows 11 and macOS in the coming months.  According to Windows Latest, the panel is a step in the right direction for Google’s plan to improve browser speed and security. However, one could argue that it replicates Microsoft Edge’s ‘browser essentials’ feature that manages the performance of Microsoft’s rival web browser.  In a post on the Chromium bug forum – a place for Chrome testers to report bugs to the project members or developers –  a Google engineer notes that the final stages of designing the new panel are underway, and that the team is “working on finalizing the design for the contents of the new performance side panel and need to prototype how the different performance cards will be displayed. It seems like Facebook is undergoing a new makeover as part of a “refreshed identity system” for Meta. These changes include a refreshed Facebook logo with a darker blue background and a slight shift in the iconic lowercase ‘f’. A new color palette for the brand has been developed, introducing new hues, which Meta explains in a blog post as part of a plan to make the brand “legible at any size, flexible enough for different needs, and easy for people to interact with.” If you’re expecting a brand-new look for the veteran social media app, you’ll be disappointed, to say the least. Microsoft Edge has reportedly gone a bit haywire with its latest update, at least for some users who are seeing the web browser presented in touch-friendly form – on desktop PCs where this isn’t necessary. What’s going on here? Well, as Windows Latest reports, after opening Edge and finding the browser updated, the browser client had bigger spaces between interface elements (including tabs) and wider buttons. This is the configuration used to make the browser better for touchscreens, giving you more space to tap on things, but the problem is that the mode is supposedly appearing on Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, which are normal (non-touchscreen) desktops. It looks like WhatsApp users will finally get what so many of us have been asking for, as beta testers have had a sneak peek at an iPadOS app version of the instant messaging app. Hopefully, this means we’ll be getting an iPad app version of WhatsApp very soon.  Screenshots from WABetaInfo show that the app looks just as it does on your phone, just adapted to the iPad’s larger screen. It looks like you’d use the same QR-scanning feature to connect your account to the app, and have the same list of contacts on the left and your current chat on the right as you would when you use WhatsApp Web.  You do have to wonder why it’s taken so long for the iPadOS app to come to fruition considering how popular WhatsApp is, and the fact that we already have Facebook Messenger and Instagram on the iPad.
