In an effort to be more transparent with users, Google is clarifying the language on Chrome’s Incognito Mode disclaimer saying, in no uncertain terms, the company does indeed collect your data. An extra line has been added stating “This won’t change how data is collected by websites you visit and the services they use, including Google.” The refreshed wording was initially discovered by tech news site MSPowerUser on the latest Chrome Canary update for desktop and mobile. We installed the browser onto our devices to double-check and we can confirm the line is indeed there.  The bullet points below the disclaimer are mostly the same. One of the headers does have a few extra words with it now stating “Chrome won’t save the following information” followed by the list instead of simply “Chrome won’t save”. Samsung Internet is a Chromium-based browser, similar to Edge and Google Chrome, and it’s been in the public eye recently due to an unusual listing on the Microsoft Store for a Windows version of the Android browser.  However, MSPoweruser reports that as of today January 15, 2024 the app is no longer listed or accessible on the Microsoft Store. Samsung and Microsoft are yet to release any official statements regarding the peculiar situation.  While it is quite odd to see Samsung Internet on the Microsoft Store, there are a few possible explanations as to what could have happened. In recent days, YouTube has been accused of throttling the performance of its own platform as the latest tactic in its war against ad blockers. But YouTube says this categorically isn’t the case. Instead, it looks like the reason for the slowdown lies with the ad blockers themselves – and a fix is on the way. First, let’s get you up to speed. Google Maps has quietly been adding some useful upgrades in 2024, including support for 3D buildings while you’re navigating – and Android users are now reporting seeing a new feature that keeps Maps connected while you’re underground or in tunnels. As spotted by SmartDroid (via 9to5Google), Google Maps on Android now contains an option (turned off by default) to connect to Bluetooth beacons. This means your Android phone can use the beacons installed inside the tunnels of many major cities to retain Google Maps connectivity, so you don’t miss any in-tunnel exits or accident alerts. This feature has already been available on the Google-owned Waze for a few years now, but its inclusion in Google Maps is more recent. Microsoft’s Edge web browser appears to be struggling for some users when they try to watch YouTube videos – and fingers are being pointed at Google, the company behind both YouTube, and Chrome, Edge’s biggest rival in the web browser space. As Windows Central reports, people have been taking to Reddit to complain about YouTube’s performance in Edge, with one user complaining that videos suffer from a two-second delay, while Windows Task Manager was showing Edge using between 50% and 90% of the PC’s CPU and memory resources, which definitely shouldn’t be the case. According to Windows Central, another user complained about Google showing a pop-up message suggesting they use Chrome instead. So what’s going on? Is foul play to blame?
