Apple Maps has improved considerably since its rather rocky launch back in 2012, but its immersive street-level Look Around feature still lags behind Street View in Google Maps. According to a new leak, Apple has big plans to do something about that. As spotted by reporter Ryan Fae (via MacRumors), code embedded in the newly launched Apple Maps web app reveals some of the areas Look Around is going to be coming to next – and a significant expansion seems to be imminent. Whereas the street-level photography of Look Around is currently limited to major cities in the US and a few select regions internationally, it’s soon going to include major highways, smaller cities, and rural areas – in the United States to start with. Whether you’ve dreamed of posting a longer carousel post on Instagram – be it photos and videos of your dog, sharing your latest epic travel adventure, or maybe simply a monthly dump – the latest feature update from the social media giant will make your dream a little closer.  Instagram, which is owned by Meta, announced today that the feed, carousel posts, can now contain up to 20 photos or videos in length. That’s effectively a doubling from the previous limit of 10, and while you might not use it daily, it’s handy to be able to share more if you choose to do it. Google’s monopolistic throne in online search and related advertising matters may have just been hit with a major blow, but that’s just one type of digital market and Google (of all entities) knows that there are plenty of others out there – y’all ever heard of Patreon?  Now, Google is reportedly developing a new ‘Web Monetization’ functionality for its Chrome browser, and with it potentially comes a whole wave of changes to how payments can be made online.  On the internet, many websites that exist for commercial purposes are able to make money through ads and subscriptions. To us, many of these transactions at least have the facade of being direct, sometimes bar a processing fee.
