Meta has been busy deleting the accounts of under 16s in AustraliaOver 500,000 accounts are gone from Facebook, Instagram, and ThreadsMeta still wants more done to improve age verification The fallout from the Australian government’s decision to ban under-16s from social media continues: Meta has posted an update on the action it’s taken to adhere to the new rules, while reiterating its belief that there are better ways to protect teens. By December 11, a day after the ban came into effect, Meta says it had removed access to 544,052 accounts thought to belong to under-16s in Australia. That number covers the Instagram, Facebook, and Threads platforms all owned by Meta. The young users affected did get 14 days of notice to download their information and – presumably – let their contacts know where they could be found in the future (Facebook Messenger is actually exempt from the ban, for example). SpaceX just got approval to launch another 7,500 next-gen Starlink satellites into orbit

SpaceX can launch another 7,500 Starlink satellitesIt means 15,000 Gen2 models will be in orbitThe satellites must all be in the sky by December 2031 SpaceX already has 7,500 of its Starlink Gen2 satellites in orbit, and just got the green light from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US to launch 7,500 more – taking the total up to 15,000. The news was announced by FCC chairman Brendan Carr (via Wccftech), and in Carr’s own words on social media this decision is going to enable “even better, faster, and more advanced internet services in the country”. Connect to a Gen2 satellite via a Starlink dish, and you’re promising higher capacities and lower latencies compared to the first-generation models. The updated satellites have a 20x increase in throughput, and are easier to connect to.
