X was down – here’s what happened in the latest outage

16/01/2026 0

It wasn’t on the scale of a certain cellular outage, but X (formerly Twitter) was down for many users today. For a while, thousands of users found that both the site and mobile app were failing to load for them, with the former accompanied by a ‘Something went wrong’ notice. The spikes in reported outages on DownDetector started to rise as of 10:15am ET, reaching over 78,000 in the United States at their peak. At the same time, reports for Grok began spiking, reaching around 2,200. TechRadar reported live on the outage, which fortunately fizzled out for most by around 11.45am / 4.45pm GMT. Here’s how it played out… While X was down for me initially, it came back, and then went away again. And it seems that’s the case as of now for many of my TechRadar colleagues in both the US and the UK – they still can’t get X to load as a whole, […]

Airbnb seemingly confirms Apple’s self-driving car — and what it reveals about Apple’s AI shift, and Airbnb’s future

16/01/2026 0

Airbnb’s CTO hiring news seemingly confirms Apple’s long-rumored self-driving car projectIt adds context to Apple’s broader AI strategy, especially with the Google partnership newsIt also shows off Airbnb’s AI ambitions, which are decidedly focused on the human element Apple is known for being one of the most secretive companies in tech, rarely confirming projects in development and typically announcing new hardware or software only when the timing is right. Entire initiatives can live – and quietly die – inside Cupertino without ever being publicly acknowledged. That’s why it’s notable that, after years of rumors surrounding Apple’s work on autonomous vehicles, an unexpected confirmation appears to have come from Airbnb. As part of a publicly shared internal announcement naming Ahmad Al-Dahle as Airbnb’s new Chief Technology Officer, a memo sent to employees states: “In 2014, Ahmad created and led Apple’s autonomous technology group, responsible for developing the core AI systems for the company’s self-driving car project.” (Image credit: […]

Apple has just introduced its Creator Studio premium subscriptionThe paid membership locks certain app features behind a paywallApple’s new app icons are also causing consternation among users Apple introduced its Creator Studio app subscription service yesterday, which gets you a suite of creative apps for a monthly or annual fee. But if you don’t feel like stumping up $12.99 / £12.99 / AU$19.99 a month or $129 / £129 / AU$199 per year and would rather pay a one-off fee, there’s an unwelcome catch: you’ll miss out on some features that are only available to subscribers. iLife and iWork strike back — Apple’s putting all of its creative and productivity apps under one subscription, Apple Creator Studio, and it’s multiplatform across macOS, iOS, and iPadOS

14/01/2026 0

Long ago, in our very galaxy, Apple offered iLife – a suite of creative apps – and iWork – a trio of productivity tools. Like much nostalgia-fueled tech (and today’s surge in bundling), what’s old is new again. Apple Creator Studio groups core creative apps like Logic Pro, Motion, Compressor, MainStage, Pixelmator Pro (a first!), and Final Cut Pro, alongside Pages, Keynote, and Numbers, into a single subscription that spans platforms. For $12.99 / £12.99 / AU$19.99 a month or $129 / £129 / AU$199 per year, you get access across Mac, iPad, and iPhone. It’s clearly a value play. Many of these apps were previously purchased outright or via separate, platform-specific subscriptions. But beyond savings, Apple is betting the bundle will encourage more people to integrate these tools into their workflows — or try them for the first time. In a shared release, Apple SVP of Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue said, “Apple Creator Studio […]
