Wi-Fi 7

24/02/2024 0

Wi-Fi 7 is the next generation of wireless connections, already here, and offering incredibly fast connections in both personal, office, and commercial environments. Not only that but there are plenty of new features along with the faster speeds that should appeal to those who are looking to upgrade their connection. There are plenty of reasons to make the jump, mainly because the technology behind Wi-Fi 7 is incredible and truly feels next-gen. However, there can be some downsides as well, including the price of admission since it would require you to pay for the connection as well as for one of the best Wi-Fi routers that can handle it. The Wi-Fi Alliance has spoken at length about the benefits of Wi-Fi 7, but below is a summary of what you can expect if you make the jump. Quordle today – hints and answers for Saturday, February 24 (game #761)

24/02/2024 0

It’s time for your daily dose of Quordle hints, plus the answers for both the main game and the Daily Sequence spin off.  Quordle is the only one of the many Wordle clones that I’m still playing now, around two years after the daily-word-game craze hit the internet, and with good reason: it’s fun, but also difficult. What’s more, its makers (now the online dictionary Merriam-Webster) are also keeping it fresh in the form of a variant called the Daily Sequence, which sees you complete four puzzles consecutively, rather than concurrently.  But Quordle is tough, so if you already find yourself searching for today’s Wordle answer, you’ll probably need some hints for this game too.  I’m a Quordle and Wordle fanatic who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Quordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Read on for my Quordle hints to game #761 and the answers to the main […]

Gemini AI turns up in Chrome browser to help you write, as Google plays catch-up with Microsoft Edge

23/02/2024 0

Google has expanded the generative AI capabilities of its Chrome browser with a new ‘Help me write’ feature. As you might guess, this is enlisting AI – specifically, Gemini, which Google recently launched to replace Bard – to come to your aid when writing in the browser. This is writing with a small ‘w’ mind you, meaning crafting short snippets of reviews and the like. This feature has arrived in Chrome M122 on Windows PCs and Macs, but it’s only rolling out in the US for now (in the English language – you’ll find the option in Chrome’s settings, under the ‘Experimental AI’ panel). The AI will help you craft any written content in Chrome. So, for example, if you’re creating a sales listing for a GPU so you can upgrade to a better model, it can knock up something and automatically pull over extra details that might be useful such as the spec of the graphics […]

“If you’re a sports fan, I think you’re going to be very happy with it,” Apple’s Eddy Cue explains how the tech giant made its new Sports app

21/02/2024 0

If Eddy Cue were a baseball player, he might step up to the plate, grin widely, point his bat at the lights over center field, and say, “This one’s for the fans,” before slugging a homer over the centerfield fence. I mean, I’m guessing here, but if Apple’s SVP of Internet Software and Services could announce Apple’s new Sports app thematically, that might be the way. Cue’s enthusiasm for the new app, which drops in the App Store in the US, UK, and Canada today (February 21) for iPhones running iOS 17.2 or later (there’s no iPad or Vision Pro support for now) and which delivers real-time stats, plays, and more across a growing array of major league sports, was evident when I spoke to him last week. “If you’re a sports fan, I think you’re going to be very happy with it,” Cue told me after giving me a brief, whirlwind demo of the card-based app. […]

Microsoft is experimenting with an old idea for its Edge browser that you’ll either love or hate

21/02/2024 0

Microsoft Edge might be getting a search bar that will sit alongside the main URL bar where you type in website addresses in the browser. So, instead of a long URL bar at the top of the web browser, you’ll have a somewhat shorter address bar with a compact search bar nestling right next to it. The idea is rather than having web addresses typed into the URL bar as well as web searches, the user can keep the latter separate. You can choose whatever search engine you want the bar to operate with, too. Why split search out into a second bar? Well, it’s more convenient in some respects. Imagine that you’re reading a web page that gives you an idea, and you want to search the web for that. Instead of having to open a new tab, and fire up your search, you can stay on your existing tab, click in the new search bar, […]

Chrome is getting a big privacy and security boost from Google to help safeguard your home network

19/02/2024 0

Google Chrome is getting an upgrade that will help safeguard devices connected to a private or home network.  Google outlined its plans in a post on its Chrome Platform Status page, explaining that the new feature will behave as a monitor for website requests from sites that want to access your private network and ensure that they’re from secure sources.  The more exact reasoning behind the feature, as Google explains in the post, is:  “To prevent malicious websites from pivoting through the user agent’s network position to attack devices and services which reasonably assumed they were unreachable from the Internet at large, by virtue of residing on the user’s local intranet or the user’s machine.” (Image credit: Getty Images) What we know about the new feature (so far) The feature will be named ‘Private network access checks for navigation requests’, and it will inspect what source the request to communicate with your private network is coming from […]
