Microsoft just updated Edge – and completely broke the browser according to some reports

01/03/2024 0

Microsoft just updated Edge to a new version and some users are reporting serious issues with the web browser basically becoming non-functional. Neowin first picked up on this, after one of the site’s readers highlighted the problem – and it turns out there are a fair few other people seemingly hit by the gremlin in the works of Edge. (See posts on Reddit and Microsoft’s Answers.com for examples). The apparent bug means that the Edge browser fails to load websites, either producing an error message saying ‘this page is having a problem’ or that there is ‘not enough memory to open this page.’ This occurs with all websites, and even Edge features such as the Settings panel, bookmarks, or even just a new tab – essentially, nothing works, no matter what you try to open, you get an error. This is the case with the latest stable version of Edge (122.0.2365.63) and disabling extensions doesn’t help. However, […]

Quordle today – hints and answers for Friday, March 1 (game #767)

01/03/2024 0

It’s time for your daily dose of Quordle hints, plus the answers for both the main game and the Daily Sequence spin off.  Quordle is the only one of the many Wordle clones that I’m still playing now, around two years after the daily-word-game craze hit the internet, and with good reason: it’s fun, but also difficult. What’s more, its makers (now the online dictionary Merriam-Webster) are also keeping it fresh in the form of a variant called the Daily Sequence, which sees you complete four puzzles consecutively, rather than concurrently.  But Quordle is tough, so if you already find yourself searching for today’s Wordle answer, you’ll probably need some hints for this game too.  I’m a Quordle and Wordle fanatic who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Quordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Threads was down for 30 minutes and no, we didn’t go back to Twitter

29/02/2024 0

Threads, Instagram’s popular alternative to the struggling X (formerly Twitter), went offline on Thursday afternoon around 1:30 PM ET but quickly regained its footing shortly after 2PM. People trying to access the platform on either the desktop or the Threads app found blank screens and empty feeds. There was no indication that Instagram, with which Threads is somewhat tightly integrated, suffered any similar difficulties. (Image credit: Future) Downdetector.com, which tracks consumer complaints for online service outages, noted a sharp uptick in complaints starting at around 1:30 PM. Threads launched last year and quickly skyrocketed to prominence and popularity. Since July, it’s been slowly adding features that put it almost on a level playing field with rival X, which has been bleeding advertisers, and possibly users, since Elon Musk took over in late 2022. We did take a glance over at X where “Threads Down” never trended, but some X users did report that they, too, could not […]

Microsoft Edge update finally lets you hide its annoying sidebar – here’s how

26/02/2024 0

The newest update for Microsoft Edge, Microsoft’s proprietary browser, will finally allow users to hide the sidebar along with the sidebar button. The update brings many new changes users have been asking for since Microsoft moved the three-dot button to make space for sidebar settings. Microsoft has heard the complaints and now made it so that the sidebar can be toggled in order to show or hide it.  To be able to hide the sidebar in Microsoft Edge, you have to make sure that Microsoft Edge is updated to version 122.  According to Windows Latest, you can go to the cog icon at the bottom of the sidebar (for me, this is on the right-hand side, though it might be positioned differently if you’ve tweaked your sidebar UI) and turn off the “Show sidebar button” setting. This will then remove the sidebar button, which will be switched on by default.  If you want the sidebar hidden from […]

Wi-Fi 7

24/02/2024 0

Wi-Fi 7 is the next generation of wireless connections, already here, and offering incredibly fast connections in both personal, office, and commercial environments. Not only that but there are plenty of new features along with the faster speeds that should appeal to those who are looking to upgrade their connection. There are plenty of reasons to make the jump, mainly because the technology behind Wi-Fi 7 is incredible and truly feels next-gen. However, there can be some downsides as well, including the price of admission since it would require you to pay for the connection as well as for one of the best Wi-Fi routers that can handle it. The Wi-Fi Alliance has spoken at length about the benefits of Wi-Fi 7, but below is a summary of what you can expect if you make the jump. (Image credit: ParinPix via Shutterstock) Wi-Fi 7: cut to the chase What is it? Wi-Fi 7 is a wireless technology […]

Gemini AI turns up in Chrome browser to help you write, as Google plays catch-up with Microsoft Edge

23/02/2024 0

Google has expanded the generative AI capabilities of its Chrome browser with a new ‘Help me write’ feature. As you might guess, this is enlisting AI – specifically, Gemini, which Google recently launched to replace Bard – to come to your aid when writing in the browser. This is writing with a small ‘w’ mind you, meaning crafting short snippets of reviews and the like. This feature has arrived in Chrome M122 on Windows PCs and Macs, but it’s only rolling out in the US for now (in the English language – you’ll find the option in Chrome’s settings, under the ‘Experimental AI’ panel). The AI will help you craft any written content in Chrome. So, for example, if you’re creating a sales listing for a GPU so you can upgrade to a better model, it can knock up something and automatically pull over extra details that might be useful such as the spec of the graphics […]
