WhatsApp gets a cool new feature that lets you share your screen with friends

14/08/2023 0

WhatsApp is introducing screen sharing during video calls in a new feature that’s allowing it to catch up with other video calling services. The announcement was made by Mark Zuckerberg, Meta CEO, on Facebook where he shared a photo of the feature in use. The new feature brings WhatsApp up to speed with other video calling apps like Facetime and Messenger, which already offer screen sharing within calls. According to TechCrunch, screen sharing between your contacts will be available across iOS, Android, and Windows, and will be compatible across those operating systems. So, if you’re an Android user calling someone on an Apple device, you’ll still be able to use the feature. Additionally, WhatsApp is also adding support for landscape orientation during video calls on mobile, which pairs perfectly with […]

Quordle today – hints and answers for Monday, August 14 (game #567)

14/08/2023 0

It’s time for your daily dose of Quordle hints, plus the answers for both the main game and the Daily Sequence spin off.  Quordle is the only one of the many Wordle clones that I’m still playing now, around 18 months after the daily-word-game craze hit the internet, and with good reason: it’s good fun, but also difficult. What’s more, its makers (now the online dictionary Merriam-Webster) are also keeping it fresh in the form of a new variant called the Daily Sequence, which sees you complete four puzzles consecutively, rather than concurrently.  But Quordle is tough, so if you already find yourself searching for Wordle hints, you’ll probably need some for this game too.  I’m a Quordle and Wordle fanatic who’s been playing since December 2021, so I can definitely help you solve Quordle today and improve your game for tomorrow. Chrome’s new weekly security updates could beat the hackers and save your data

11/08/2023 0

Google is planning to make security updates for Chrome more frequent in an effort to be more proactive in tackling high-severity vulnerability issues.  As the most popular browser on the internet, this vast user base makes it a big target for hackers looking to exploit security flaws and steal users’ personal data.  However, the crucial Achilles heel in Google’s attempts to protect its users is the open-source Chromium project, which can be used as a browser and shares a lot of code with Chrome (which is based on Chromium, as are some other browsers).  Based on Chromium The open-source nature of Chromium unfortunately means that Chrome’s source code is available for anyone to see and try to hack. Google also allows for users and developers to test their own ideas and find bugs, and then report them to Google to fix, along with a list of proposed changes by other users which could sometimes be potential bug […]

Threads update adds 3 useful features but doesn’t go far enough

11/08/2023 0

Threads – the Instagram spinoff Meta has launched to compete with Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) – has finally started to launch some much-requested features, but not quite in the way many of us would have liked. When it launched back in July, Meta saw a significant amount of people flock to its fledgling social media platform. Fueled in part by the ease with which you can join Threads (you just need an Instagram account), and in part a general dislike of Elon Musk’s recent Twitter changes (including the site’s name), Threads hit 100 million users in just five days.  This may not seem huge by some social media standards (Facebook has nearly 3 billion monthly active users) but Instagram took two and a half years to reach the same goal, TikTok took nine months, and ChatGPT took two months. Unfortunately, Meta’s Threads felt a little rushed and not quite ready to capitalize on its early success. Outside […]

WhatsApp video calls get handy screen-sharing feature – here’s how to use it

08/08/2023 0

WhatsApp has just upgraded its video calls feature with two new big features, including a screen-sharing feature that sees it rival FaceTime, Zoom and Teams. If you regularly find yourself in video chats where you’d like to share photos or live web pages with friends and family, you’ll soon be able to do that on Android, iOS, and Windows. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the new feature on Facebook (below) alongside the caption “we’re adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp”. While clearly designed to tempt you away from the likes of Zoom and Teams, WhatsApp’s new screen-sharing feature isn’t just designed for work presentations. Because you can share your screen or an app, Meta thinks you’ll also be using it to share photo galleries, plan vacations or help your grandparents with tech problems. Facebook Messenger is losing a useful messaging feature soon

08/08/2023 0

Meta is removing SMS messaging from Facebook Messenger, so if it’s the default app on your Android phone you’ll want to change it to a new preferred option soon The feature will be switched off on September 28 Meta, which means you’ll no longer be able to use Messenger for SMS messages. You will still be able to use the app for its usual non-SMS messages though, so the app won’t be completely useless come the deadline. The SMS feature was added in 2016, with Meta (then Facebook) explaining that it hoped the move would make Messenger a one-stop shop for your messaging needs. Rather than using several different apps, you could find your chats that ran on Messenger’s internet-powered messaging service as well as your communications over traditional SMS. This vision has unfortunately come to an unceremonious end (at least for now) with Meta’s recent Help Center announcement letting users know that SMS messaging is leaving […]
