The social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a huge outage on web and mobile today, but fortunately the problems now seem to be fixed. The first spike in reported problems on Downdetector happened at around 6.08am ET / 11.08am ET, with over 3,800 reports in the UK and over 11,000 in the US. They hit a high at around 6.40am ET / 11.40am, followed by a second peak at around 8.35am ET / 1.35pm GMT – both of which coincided with some major Cloudflare problems. Cloudflare said it saw “unusual traffic to one of Cloudflare’s services beginning at 11:20 UTC”, but has since said that “a fix has been implemented”. That seems to have sorted the problems on X and many other sites including ChatGPT, for now at least. The UN refugee agency has welcomed aspects of the United Kingdom’s proposed changes to its asylum system, while emphasising the importance of fair, efficient protection for those fleeing conflict and persecution.
